intellectual and professional capabilities of our prospective graduates in the field of peace and conflict
studies, govemment and public policy, strategic studies, international relations, and leadership and
management studies. The comprehensive academic approach is designed to nurture and develop students' skills
to become enlightened and useful citizens.
NDU seeks to create a transformative impact on the society. In doing this we offer innovative and
collaborative environment to the students that is open, free, and conducive for the exchange of ideas. By
employing social scientific research methodology and emphasis on epistemological sophistication based on
critical theoretical constructs, we aim to strengthen academic excellence to conduct applied research.
Mission of FCS is to become a Centre of excellence to produce effective human resource base for professional
faculty, researchers, academicians, and elite leaders. The most important principle of our university is to
foster national integration based on our strategic culture, national pride combined with human compassion
based on inclusivity for the promotion of a homogenous society.
We are hopeful that the graduating students from FCS, NDU shall meet the challenges of 21st Century and

Government & Public Policy program prepares students for careers in policy analysis, program evaluation, management and planning. The curriculum provides a foundation in subjects ranging from elements of public policy and its relevance in efficient governance; decision-making processes and specific analytic tools and concepts of economic theory and statistical modeling.
Department of Peace and Conflict Studies (PCS) was established in September 2008 with the aim to pass on existing knowledge to undergrad and graduate students and to conduct research on challenging questions of our times. Peace and Conflict Studies is an interdisciplinary field of social science, and it mainly focuses on the study and analysis of both violent and nonviolent conflicts
Strategic Studies (SS) is a specialized field centered on the study of strategies, often devoting special attention to the relationship between international politics, geo-strategy, international diplomacy, international geo-economics, and military power. It focuses on various strategic and military dimensions. The Department of Strategic Studies is one of the leading departments in Pakistan with its emphasis on broader contours of strategic studies, including that of Nuclear Studies, War, Conflict, International Security, spaceweapons, net-centric warfare and GeoStrategy.
The Department of IR at Faculty of Contemporary Studies, National Defence University is one of the leading departments of the disciplines in Pakistan. It is committed to provide state of the art learning environment through high quality teaching, interdisciplinary approaches, modern techniques of sharing knowledge, and external collaborations.
The department of LMS is dedicated to create intellectual stimulus and opportunities to impart quality education in Leadership and Management Studies. The programs offered by the department enable students to develop understanding of elements of leadership, management studies, Disaster and Risk Management and Project Management.
Economics The Department of Economics is a cornerstone of the Faculty of Cotemporary Studies (FCS). The Department typically offers a broad range of undergraduate and postgraduate academic programs focusing on the study of how individuals, businesses, and governments make choices in the face of scarcity. The strength of the department lies in its teaching philosophy deeply rooted in a harmonious blend of theory and practical application. To this end, the department aims to equip students with analytical skills, knowledge of economic theories, and practical experience in research and analysis enabling them to address complex real-world economic challenges.
